Location: Longitude: 13 ° 52 'West Latitude: 28 ° 30' North. The island of Fuerteventura is the longest of the archipelago. Between Punta de Tiñosa, north of the Jandia, on the southern end, 210 miles away. Its area is approximately 1659 square kilometers'7 (including Isla de Lobos), therefore, is the second largest of the archipelago, after Tenerife. Close to the African continent which are about 52 nautical miles from Punta Entallada saqui and al-Hamra in the Western Sahara.
The former is the first Erbania Canary island that emerged from the ocean some 38 million years and the last eruption occurred about 7000 years ago. The erosion has done that today is an island in the predominantly flat, emphasizing only the mountain Betancuria and Jandia. The roof of the island is located in Jandia (Pico de la Zarza, 807 meters).
The first to settle were the Guanches, primitive tribe descended from the barbarians of North Africa. Subsequently there were many invasions of Spain and Portugal and the UK, with those less fortunate. The invasion was successful by Juan Betancour who won in Lanzarote in 1402 and who gave his name to the city of Betancuria.
With 3000 hours of sunshine a year and a low altitude that prevents Fuerteventura benefits of horizontal rain, which coupled with low rainfall received by the island (120 mm per year), this makes it one of the driest landscape de Canarias. 98 km long and about 30 km wide and is a gentle island with reliefs whose physical condition to complete the lifestyle of its inhabitants. The island has ten natural protected with a total of 43,725 hectares, approximately 25% of the surface of the island.
